Vintage 19th century campaign travel chest storage with nameplate metalwork fixings

Beautiful old travel chest that came to us in a bad state but now looks fantastic. Campaign trunk that would have travelled with its owner, handles on the side to lift, iron work on the corners to protect it on it’s journeys.

We have stripped back the bad 70s varnish job, filled the holes and damage - then we stained it a subtle shade, gave it a wax finish and painted the bottom black to give it a cleaner finish. We have kept the fixtures and fittings in original state so as to not update it too much.

Could be used as a coffee table, ottoman at the end of the bed - or put up on a stand and used as a chest of drawers.

There is a nameplate on the front, but we haven't managed to find anything about the person. There are some scratches and wear to the wood, when we sanded it back we didn't want to go too far back to remove all its history.

Drawers move freely and cleanly. Patina, wear and damage to original finish on some of the fittings - check photos.
